Just as"The Full-Time Ordinary Senior Middle School Chinese Curriculum Plans"puts it, the teaching in high school should improve students'ability to understand and use Chinese language in a proper way based on the ability which has been formed during the middle school, thusequipping them with the capacity for reading, writing, and speaking. Modern society is an information age when varieties of means of communication emerge, however, nothing is more convenient and direct than verbal communication. Moreover, the bout of speaking ability can be found in modern communication, negotiation, business and job application. One's wisdom, knowledge and capacity can be reflected in his speaking ability which fulfils a great function during lifetime. Nevertheless, schools and teachers, more often than not, attach more importance to the reading and writing skills in teaching, making the training of speaking ability the blind corner in Chinese teaching.Debate or debating is a formal method of interactive and representational argument, involving aspects from virtues, art of language, and logical argument to critical thinking. To learn debate in high school is a better solution to developing one's own speaking ability.How to make the training for debating more scientific, practical? This case focuses on a scientific, systematic training for debating rather than an unscientific, disorganized one. The thesis consists of four parts:Part 1: To illustrate the necessity of the debating ability for high school students based on its present situation, historic value, practical function and promotion for the application of Chinese language.Part 2: To analyze the difficulties people will run into during the debating training.Part 3: To make an analysis of the features which the debating training should follow according to the different debaters and topics, thus providing better foundation for debating training.Part 4: To bring forward Strategies for training in debating classroom and formal debating contest.
