Volleyball as a required course for sport of institute or department students is a scientific wise sport. Along with the new competition rules promulgated in the country, the rally point system implementation and evolution of volleyball skills and tactics, not only makes volleyball more intense, but also changes the competition technique and tactics score proportion, the defense is an initiative aspect of the score, so the defensive tactics attracted widespread attention of various teams. Therefore, this article, which is based on cognitive theory, is carried out the predictability thinking research, combines the relevant research of psychology and thinking, in the volleyball defense tactic study, discusses the method educating the student predictive capability of thinking, improves the quality of teaching and training, and strengthens the scientific nature of the defensive tactic study.This article through studying the predictability thinking's rationale, the characteristic and relation with volleyball defense tactic's rule and so on, training predictive ability of thinking is feasible for the optimization of the volleyball defensive tactics teaching effect, and uses for instructing the defensive tactic teaching, then enhances student's observation, the analysis and judgment ability, enhances student grasp the profound theoretical knowledge, trains student's learning initiative, enthusiasm and team cooperation ability, then draws the conclusion and makes the constructive proposal. Proved through teaching: training predictive ability of thinking is very important for the optimization of the Volleyball defensive tactics teaching, furthermore, it may provide a useful reference for other physical education.
