The practicum is an important process for teacher education. The practicum is an eventful way to train students'teaching skills; to make them acquire professional emotion; to get the independent teaching ability; to speed up their role changes from student to teacher. Not only the mentoring influences the quality of the practicum, but also plays a major role in teacher career.This research's question is that what the characteristics of the mentor are, from the perspective of student teachers. By the questionnaire and statistical tool SPSS18.0, this research is studied. Based on the questionnaires of the NEA and China Taiwan, form the tool of an adaptation questionnaire that is"Survey of practicum". The samples were 189 student teachers from Northeast Normal University. Including male 67, female 122.Student teachers are from 7 majors, whose major are Geography, Math, History, Foreign Language, Chinese, Biology, Physics. I've been analyzing the survey, and there are consequences of the research.The characteristics of the mentor in the middle school:1. Mentoring ability: including the teaching skills, the pertinence to student teachers, the evaluation to student teacher's teaching and reflection.2. Teaching ability, including teaching practice, subject special knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, flexibility in teaching, class management.3. Cognition to the practicum, including positive cognition to the mentoring, aspiration to be the mentor, knowing the responsibility of the mentor.4. Communication ability, including express oneself exactly, empathy, cooperation.The personalities of the mentor are not important for .student teachers, so it is not as a character in this research.
