In recent years, with the developing of society, the scale of the left-behind children grows rapidly in China, more and more people pay attention on them. To explore the living conditions of the left-behind children, and the relationship between emotional intelligence, self-congruence, and mental health, we investigated many pupils with EIS, SCCS and MHT. The results were as follow:(1) Revised MHT has high reliability and validity.(2)There are obvious differences between Left-behind children and the general children in lives, learning, emotion, communication and satisfaction. The quality of life, activity of learning of the left-behind children are lower, the left-behind children have more negative feelings, less communicate with others and satisfied with life than the general children.(3)The mental health level of left-behind children is significantly-different from the general children, the left-behind children are lower than the general children. The mental health of left-behind children is significantly different in the number of parents out, and the types of care-taking, but not in grade, the frequency of communication with parents and sex. Boys are higher in impulsion, lower in learning, terror, remorse than girls.(4)The emotional intelligence of left-behind children isn't significantly different from the general children. The emotional intelligence of left-behind children is significantly different in grade, but not in sex, types of care-taking and the frequency of communication with parents. Girls are higher than boys in the regulate others emotions.(5)The self-congruence of left-behind children is significantly different from the general children. The self-congruence of left-behind children is significantly different in grade and the number of parents out, but not in sex, the type of care-taking and the frequency of communication with parents. Girls are higher the boys in the self-flexibility.(6)There are significant correlations between emotional intelligence, self-congruence, and mental health among the left-behind children.(7) Emotional intelligence and self-congruence could be used to predict the mental health of the left-behind children effectively.Then according the results of investigation, we try to solve the problems of the left-behind children by the follow ways:we should have a corret understanding of them; set some institution for family education to improve patrents'quality, to mank them cared the children in every aspect and their parenting style more scientific; focus on the role of significant others'influence in the left-behind children, like teachers and classmates; to improve the level of ment health by many ways,such as building files, psychology guidance, intimate sister-mail and so on; strengthen the communication between the left-behind children and their parents by family hotline.
