Task-based language teaching approach is a language teaching method rising in the eighty of the twenties century, which requires learners achieve programs and complete the tasks in accordance with a plan which is designed by teachers. Since it came out, the situation of high school English teaching and learning of Task-based approach has led to the full attention and discussion. In this thesis, based on academic research done for this problem, it further studies the effectiveness and prospects of task-based teaching in high school English teaching and learning.This paper discusses which aspects do the effectiveness of Task-based Teaching methods implied in English writing of middle schools?Framework and the theories are proposed by Prabhu, Willis, Nunan, Skehan and other scholars. It uses the methods of observation, experimental method, interview, questionnaires and so on. It finds task-based approach plays a significant role in English promoting. The enlightenments and actual problems are found, Countermeasures are proposed by the researcher.Based on the objective of study, two classes are randomly selected out of 10 classes, in Xinxiang No.3 High school, Henan Province. The research time is from September 2010 to January 2011.Which class is experimental and which class is control class is selected randomly. One of which is as experimental group, as class one; the other one is for control class, as class two. The ages of these students are almost the same. They have the similar proportion of boys and girls and students'number. The levels of English writing of these students are also similar. The students of experimental class employ the task-based approach, while the students from the control class employ the traditional teaching method. To ensure the reliability and validity of the writing test, the scores are marked in accordance with the standard of college entrance examination in English composition.The experiment shows that the students from the experimental Class made a greater improvement than those from the control class. The paper concludes that the task-based teaching greatly helps to improve learners'linguistic knowledge, makes whole language resources of learners displaying their good effects. At a happy atmosphere learners can enhance the interest with fun. Task-based teaching mode provides students with a lot in reality to use English and comprehensible input opportunity that benefit students natural and successfully complete language acquisition. The task-based teaching mode can cultivate students' practical skills, innovation consciousness and to enhance their abilities of solving problems and cooperative learning.This research will give great enlightenments to English teaching. English teachers should be quite clear about the roles of students as well as themselves in the writing class. That is to say students should be encouraged to be important participants while playing the role of main parts in the task oriented teaching method in order to inspire their studying motivation and interests. Students should actively participate in the problem discussion in order to express their thoughts clearly and adjust the goals and direction of study.
