In National Long-term Plan of Educational Reform and Development programs, it points out that the primary security measure of realizing the strategic target (to basically realize the basic education modernization, build a learning society and make the Nation Powerful through Talents) is to strengthen the construction of teacher staffs, with the emphasis on improving the overall quality of the primary and middle school teachers in rural areas. The essential way to construct a highly-qualified rural teachers'troop is through rural teachers training, the key point of which is the design and implement of the training courses. Based on previous researches on rural teachers' professional development and training, first the thesis will compare and analyze the fundamental conditions and the present problems in Professional development for the backbone English teachers in rural primary schools in Zhejiang province and China. Then it will research on the design and implement of training courses for the backbone English teachers in rural primary schools in Lead Goose Project of Zhejiang province.The thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one contains the research background, the significance of the research, teacher's professional development, the training for primary school English teachers and previous researches on the training for primary school teachers. Also, it will define the research category. Based on the analysis and summary of tfie fundamental conditons, features and present Professional development for teachers in rural primary schools in Zhejiang province and China, via the current data and questionnaire, chapter two proposes some suggestions for the contents of training courses for the rural teachers. Chapter three is the key chapter of the whole thesis.By analyzing the official guildlines to the primary and middle school teachers in rural areas in Lead Goose Project, especially two training centers'design and implement of training courses for the backbone English teachers in rural primary schools, chapter three analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the typical training courses in detail based on Adult Education Theory and Teachers' In-service Training CurriculumTheory. The last chapter is about experience and lessons. It offers three suggestions for the design and implement of training courses for the backbone teachers in rural schools. The suggestions are as follows. First, the key guarantee to the effective design of training courses is the survey of training needs. Second, great emphasis should be put on the connetion between theory and practice. Third, the characteristics of rural education, rural schools and rural teachers should be taken into consideration in training courses.
