| Textbook plays an important role in language teaching and learning process. It presents the learning contents for students, and provides the teaching materials for teachers. It embodies the goals put forward by curriculum standards.The same as English textbook, it is also the concrete embodiment of English curriculum standards. According to English curriculum standard, choosing the most applicative English textbook is the essential part to improve quality of English teaching and learning. Thus, it is the work proposed in curriculum standard that evaluating the textbook and make them more feasible in further using.NSE coursebook is published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and on the basis of the second national curriculum reform. It embodies the latest concept of compiling English teaching materials. It began to use this set of coursebooks in autumn 2006 in Liaoning province. But there is no assessment for this English teaching material in Dalian. Through qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis, this paper aims to investigate the using condition, analysis whether or not the use of this coursebook could be feasible, find out the advantages and shortages of NSE coursebook and give some suggestions for further using and improvement.The paper consists of five chapters.Chapter one is an introduction which states the background of the research of New Standard English coursebooks (follow is called NSE coursebooks), the purpose and significance of the research, the foundation of theories and research methods in this paper.Chapter two is a literature review which reviews the domestic and foreign teaching materials evaluation standards and methods, then put forward the English coursebooks evaluating standards and methods adopted in this paper.Chapter three is a qualitative analysis which systematically introduces NSE coursebooks, according to the guideline of English curriculum standard for senior high; make early qualitative analysis to NSE coursebooks themselves.Chapter four is a quantitative analysis which gains the information of value object by analyzing the contents and background information (teachers and senior high) for using NSE coursebooks through the teachers' questionnaires; then, follow the view point of value subject (students and society), analyze their learning and training needs toward NSE coursebooks by means of students' questionnaires; make quantitative analysis.Chapter five is a conclusion and summary which contrast the early qualitative analysis with the quantitative analysis, summarize the advantages and disadvantages of NSE coursebooks and their suitability, give some suggestions of improvement and optimization for further using NSE coursebooks. |
