Tang Dynasty Auspicious Research

In ancient Chinese society, auspicious sign was considered to be the sign that the emperor was determined by providence, as well as the symbol of national prosperity. In the Tang Dynasty, auspicious sign had been widely used in political life, and generated extensive social effect. This article takes the auspicious sign of the Tang Dynasty as the research object, attempting to do a comprehensive and systematic research.The followings are the main details of this Paper:In the first part, it gives us a general discussion of ideology of the auspicious sign. The ideology can be traced back to ancient times. There is a close contact with the concept of animism and primitive religious worship. There is no political activity relationship. Along with the faith of Heaven and earth ancestors, the concept of heaven had been the dominant ideology of the political and ideological field. In the Han Dynasty, Dong Zhongshu established the "Heaven-Human Induction" that was the ideological foundation of the theological system. In the Tang Dynasty, through the combing of the literature, we found that the "Heaven-Human Induction" was still the ideological foundation of auspicious sign. Auspicious also continued to play a significant political role.In the second part, The Tang Dynasty, there was a management system of the auspicious affairs. Firstly, in the Tang Dynasty there were detailed provisions on the auspicious memorial. Secondly, the direction of the Central Memorial on the auspicious sign had a fixed program, formed a strict set of auspicious sign affairs management system.In the third part, the political vision of auspicious sign. In the first section, we try to explore the attitude of the Tang Dynasty emperor for auspicious sign. Tang Dynasty emperor did not hold the same attitude toward auspicious sign. The first reason was that the political situation was different. The second reason was that stop playing the auspicious sign to indicate the emperor's confidence in governing the country. There was fixed writing program. The author of congratulations instruments had a very high literary accomplishment. In the congratulations instruments, it embodied royal minister peel. In addition, it give a general analysis on congratulations instruments of Taoist auspicious. Because Taoism do not have very rich theory, they must make use of Confucian thinking to explain the auspicious sign. Priests could use auspicious sign to narrow the gap between the rulers, but Taoism does not provide for auspicious sign reasonable theoretical basis.
