Abstract/Summary:
Since the Egyptian July Revolution of1952which resulted in overthrowing of the monarchy and subsequent establishment of the Egyptian Republic, a new authoritarian regime with distinctive Egyptian characteristics was developed under the leadership of3former presidents namely Gamal Abdel Nasser Hussein, Muhammad Anwar El Sadat and Muhammed Hosni Mubarak. Based on this new regime, a series of reforms were made which did not only see Egypt evolve from a weak colony into possessing a pivotal force in the Arab world, but also made it to be one of the most politically and economically stable countries among its peers in the Middle East for decades. The wave of political unrest that had earlier hit Tunisia to topple its former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali never spared Egypt. But why Mubarak's30year's reign ended in a step-down amid the wave of political unrest which swept through West Asia and North Africa from2010? So far, this vigorous political unrest has endured for more than a year, but the storm is still evolving.and the political destabilizing forces it unlocked are still at work. How to change the current situation from chaos to restoring social stability and normal order is a thought provoking question for it would take quite a long time.To take the dilemma of Egyptian authoritarian regime after a long reign as a starting point, deeply analyzed the relationship between the2011political unrest and constitutional government pattern, economic pattern, civil society and religion, which under Egyptian authoritarian regime, discussed the distribution and inclination of each political force during the transition, and predicted Egypt's future in the matter of its political direction, this dissertation was divided into six parts. Chapter one was an introduction which introduced the background of my choice item, research status in quo, basic thoughts and research methods. Combined with relevant history, a detailed analysis has been elaborated in Chapter two on the origin and characteristics of Egyptian authoritarian regime, which attempted to explore its legitimate crisis from the perspective of political science, revealing its merits and demerits. Then, the whole process of the political unrest from January25th2011has been reviewed as a connecting link between the preceding and the following. From Chapter three to Chapter five, the relationship between the2011political unrest and characteristics of Egyptian authoritarian regime was discussed. It made a one-to-one correspondence with the political unrest, from the perspective of constitutional government pattern, economic pattern, civil society and religion which under Egyptian authoritarian regime, trying to identify the system's inherent weaknesses that basically lead to its tumbling. Chapter six first reviewed basic content of political reconstruction up to what is currently taking place in the Egypt. In addition, it presented an outlook of Egypt's future in terms of its political direction. What's more, experience and revelation on democratic constitutional reforms were reflected upon, which would significantly help developing countries to draw lessons and make a smooth progression in political democratization and overall construction of a modern state.
