With the rapid development of society, people become more aware of the important functions of education and the educational problems of children are arousing the widespread concern of the society. Education through labor, as an importance element of the all-around development education, plays an important, even a decisive role in the life of a child. Home education through labor refers to the pedagogical activities in which parents ask the child to do housework within his power to help the child foster a positive and correct attitude toward labor, strengthen his or her labor awareness, cultivate the habit of doing manual labor and become a social man with independent viability and responsibility. Home education through labor can promote the all around and harmonious development of a child's morality, intelligence and physique, cultivate a child's lofty moral will, refined tastes and self-care ability, and develop his intelligence, wisdom and creativity. These excellent qualities are indispensable for the child to become a qualified builder of and successor to the cause of socialism. However, currently, home education through labor is increasingly in a state of neglect, with various problems becoming increasingly urgent and current situation of education beyond optimism. Therefore, we are duty-bound to strengthen the research on home education through labor. Starting with the current problems existing in home education through labor, the thesis is to expound the profound connotative meanings, important content and special significance of home education through labor, to explore the lack of home education through labor and its harmful effects on the growth of children, and to put forward the corresponding improvement strategies and suggestions for its implementation. The author makes a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the existing educational problems, points out the root of the problems, confirms the theory that home education through labor is an indispensable part of the all-around development education, calls for a return of labor education to home education and renews the position of home education through labor. Hereby, the author expects more people to pay close attention to home education through labor, helping children foster the habit of loving labor, form a correct attitude to labor and grasp some labor skills. The thesis is divided into three parts.The first part:Some related concepts and their basic theoretical analysis. The concept of education through labor is analyzed layer by layer:labor—education through labor—home education through labor. From the concept of labor and education through labor, we derive the profound connotations of home education through labor. Based on the analysis of the concept of home education through labor, the thesis continues to explore meticulously the important position, functions and meanings, features and the content of home education through labor.The second part:Current problems existing in home education through labor and analysis of causesThe present situation:(一) Intelligence is emphasized over labor and the attitude toward labor is twisted. People' s understanding of housework is incorrect. Children have a negative and hostile attitude to doing housework and self-care labor, so they do housework passively, not actively. (二) Parents dampen their children' s enthusiasm for housework. (三) Parents deprive children' s right to do housework, neglecting the cultivation of children' s ability to look after themselves and their habit of doing manual labor. Parents neglect their children' s education through labor so that children seldom do manual labor, fail to grasp some labor skills and are lacking in self-care ability and manipulative ability. (四) There are no effective scientific methods of instruction and guidance. There are underlying reasons behind any problems. The problem of home education through labor is no exception. The main reasons are as follows:(一) The diviation of value orientation Parents'value orientation toward life is inclined to the gain and loss of individual position and wealth. Their pursuit of success and pleasureseeking are at the core of their values. Owing to their lopsided cognition and irrationality of their expectations, parents'notion of education through labor is deviated, neglecting the home education through labor and even regarding it as a negative example. (二) Parents'improper educational concept and methods Parents'improper educational concept and methods are mainly reflected in the following three aspects. Firstly, Parents themselves hold a wrong attitude to labor. Secondly, Parents' outlook on accomplishment is lopsided and simplex. Thirdly, Parents tend to spoil their children. Parents fail to dialectically understand the relationship between study and labor and subjectively mark off a strict boundary of behavior between study and labor, holding that study comes first while labor takes second place so that home education through labor gives place to study. (三) Parents neglect the supervision and guidance of their children's home education through labor, mainly because they place undue emphasis on the proportion of students entering schools of a high level.The third part:Countermeasures and considerations for the reform of home education through labor Based on the analysis of the existing problems of home education through labor and the reasons, the thesis puts forward the following countermeasures:(一) Home education should be combined with social education and school education so as to create a good atmosphere for education. (二) Parents' wrong concepts should be corrected so that parents can teach by personal example and verbal instruction. (三) We should positively guide children, enhance their interest in doing manual labor and foster their correct attitude to labor. (四) Parents should learn how to love their children correctly. (五) Parents should grant their children right to do manual labor and tell them some labor skills. (六) We should borrow advanced experience and educational concepts at home and abroad.Research methods employed in the thesis are questionnaire survey, literature review, synthesis and induction, and summary of experience.
