Sino-Japanese relations is one of the most important bilateral relationship of China. It is not only related to the stability and development of the two countries, but also affects the East Asian region and the world. Since the late nineteenth century Sino-Japanese relations has been subject to U.S. factors, this is an essential feature of Sino-Japanese relations. To deal with Sino-Japanese relations from a strategic height and long-term view and overcome obstacles to promote Sino-Japanese relations is an important topic of China's diplomacy. By studying the history of U.S. factor in Sino-Japanese relations, analyzing U.S. and Japanese strategies, developing appropriate strategies and policies against the U.S. factor have great significance on China's peaceful development. To analyze the U.S. factor in Sino-Japanese relations this paper is divided into four parts: The first part, according to the time line, traces the historical evolution of U.S. factor in Sino-Japanese relations. The second part analyzes the economic, diplomatic and military impact of the U.S. factor in current Sino-Japanese relations. The third part uses the U.S. and Japan national strategies as a starting point to analyze the reasons for long-term existence of the U.S. factor in Sino-Japanese relations. The fourth part , as the focus of this paper, develops several strategies against the U.S. factor in Sino-Japanese relations based on historical review, current situation analysis and reason exploring in former three parts. The innovation of this paper is:At present, scholars on China's strategy for Japan and the U.S. can be roughly divided into two groups:One side suggest in order to against the U.S. China should associate with Japan, The other side suggest China associate with the U.S. to against Japan. This paper argues that both sides have biases, the first reason is among the three countries there is no mechanism for the formation of force against third parties, the second reason is both Sino-US "constructive and cooperative relationship " and Sino-Japanese "peace and development of friendly cooperation partnership " are based on the national interests, not to against the third country. In view of this, This paper argues that China should seek a balance between Japan and the U.S. instead of relying on either one-sided. Creating the situation that both the U.S. and Japan need China, which is a big country's attitude in dealing with external relations and development of foreign policy. The main point of this paper is: The U.S. Factor had a significant impact on Sino-Japanese relations in history, which can not be ignored in the process of dealing with Sino-Japanese relations. To maintain the overall situation of Sino-Japanese friendship, it is necessary to resolve the negative effects of U.S. factor in Sino-Japanese relations and using the positive role of the United States.
