On The United Nations Peacebuilding Commission To Establish Its Role

"To maintain international peace and security, to promote steady and peaceful development of the world"is the basic guideline of United Nations. Peace Operation is the most significant practice of this principle. Peace Operation is consisted by Conflict Prevention, Peacemaking, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding. Among all those operations, Peacekeeping is the most important one. With the ending of the Cold War and the decades-long struggle for global supremacy, as well as UN, the Peacekeeping entered a new stage. However, some new problems crops up, and the most significant one is that almost half of the Peacekeeping countries were pulled into conflicts again. All those new problems and situations have inseparable relation with the nature of Peacekeeping Operation. Aimed at making the settlement of conflict possible, Peacekeeping is a temporary measure and it should abide by the three principles. So, to maintain and realize perpetual peace, UN should do more to penetrate the deep-rooted reasons of conflict and to perfect its Peace Operation mechanism. So that's how Peacebuilding Commission was created.The Peacebuilding Commission was established to provide advice for post-conflict countries'rebuilding and to promote the establishment of the national institutions which was instrumental for peace consolidation. PBC has carried out its activities in Burundi, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Central African Republic and Liberia. In this paper, Burundi was taken as an example to analyze the PBC's operation in post-conflict countries. PBC's work in Burundi has achieved several results and the peacebuilding is still confronted by many difficulties and problems.
