Motivation is one of the most important affective factors in Chinese learningwhich has a great effect on Chinese learners from central Asia and Russia. Withinthe framework of Gardner's social-education model, the present study investigatesthe types of motivation of students from central Asia and Russia in learningChinese, Also discusses the relationship between orientation and motivationalintensity. Moreover,it analyzes the gender and language level difference inorientation and motivational intensity.The investigation takes quantitative research as a main method, theparticipants were100students in International Cultural Exchange College XinjiangUniversity, and the data were collected through a server method. The results ofstudy as follows:(1) Instrumental orientation is the main orientation for students from centralAsia and Russia.(2) There are significant correlations between instrumental orientation,integrative orientation and motivation intensity.(3) There is no significant difference between genders and different languagelevels except the motivation intensity of low level learners is higher thanhigh level learners, and the difference is significant.Based upon the findings recommendations are made to enhance student'smotivation in course offering, classroom teaching and extracurricular activities.
