.1926 British General Strike Of The The Durham Mine Life,

After World War I, because of the depression of the coal crises of foreign and domestic economy, the British coal enterprises got into the great trouble:in order to improve the competitiveness of the coal market and to reduce operating costs, the mine owners attempted to take a cut in wages for miners and increased their working hours, which caused miners' great dissatisfaction. The deepening of the contradiction between the miners and mine owners eventually led to the massive strike in1926, which swept the whole Britain. In this strike, coal workers became the backbone of the strike movement and the Durham mining area strike became an important part of the general strike. This massive strike had a significant impact on the all aspect of the Durham miners.This paper will discuss the historical events of the massive British strike, the Durham mining area strike and its failure, as well as the analysis of the impact on the all aspect of the Durham miners, especially people's living and their social life.I will discuss the following five parts:The first part is about a brief overview of the massive British strike, which mainly focuses on the British domestic economy before the strike, the coal industry crisis, the outbreak of the strike and its specific process.The second part will mainly discuss its results and the reasons of the strike's failure.The third part will focus on the impact of the massive British strike on the Durham miners'daily life before the strike.The fourth part will analyze the impact of the massive British strike on the Durham miners'spiritual aspect, mainly from the social, political, economic, and cultural point of view.The final part is the epilogue, in which I will summarize the Durham mine strike in order to draw a lesson from the construction of trade union functions, labor relations, and miners'management of our China's coal industry.
