The Village in August and Third Generation, which written by Xiao Jun after the9.18incident, have shown the living condition of the peasants in north-east of Chinawho fight against the Japanese during the Anti-Japanese war from the late19th centuryto the1930s.Firstly, from the hole story these two story happened in a defined space, thenorth-east of China, showing the life of peasants there. On one hand, the story hasshown the characteristics of that place from two aspects, the natural environment andthe custom in the north-east of China. The characteristics difference of any place hassome close relationship with the natural environment and the people. The Village inAugust and Third Generation have shown the characteristics of north-east of China bythe natural environment and the custom there. From the other hand, the stories show thelife there in the special time through the peasants' different lifestyle in the city andcounty. In this special time and space, the peasants not only live on fishing and farming,but also robbing. Meanwhile, a small part of peasants lived a different life from beforein the city after they moved from the countryside.Secondly, these two novels makes the story happened in a defined space, north–east of China, makes the role change from peasant to robber, from real life to history,this is the special writing style, narrative change from space to time. On one hand, thestory reflects the change of resistance of the Northeast peasants from spontaneous toconscious. In this confined space neither the Northeast farmers nor the special kind ofpeasant revolt against the oppression violently. However, with the development ofsociety, they joined the anti-Japanese war under the influence of all kinds of facts.That's the story how reflect the change of resistance of the Northeast peasants fromspontaneous to conscious. On the other hand, the story reflected resistance of thepeasants in the north-east of China by scenes of reality and history.If the Village of August reflects environment by showing the peasants in theAnti-Japanese war, then the Third Generation shows a long awakening process from thelate nineteenth Century to the early twentieth Century objectively, then these two novels show the resistance life of the peasants which last nearly a half century.
