Mont Yin stretches across the middle part of Inner Mongolia from the east to the west, is the place of origin of the grasslands culture. The most conspicuous object in the giant treasure-house of the grasslands culture is that of millions of Rock Pictures at Mont Yin. The Rock Pictures, with substantial contents and comprehensive themes, are the life history of basic necessities of lives of nomads in Northern China, and are not only full of realism but endless imagination. The Rock Pictures at Mont Yin were approved to be in the list of the Units of National Focal Cultural Relic Protection in2006as the Rock Art from the New Stone Age to the Bronze Age; the task of applying for World Cultural Heritage for the Rock Pictures at Mont Yin had been formally initiating since2010. The writer of this paper intends to roundly introduce the Rock Pictures at Mont Yin, meanwhile deeply inquire into the Ornamentation of Hoof Prints in focus. The paper expounds the points that the Ornamentation of Hoof Prints is the symbol of the animals themselves and reproductive worship and reflects the brave desire of both the growth of population and stock breeding thrived from the nomads in Northern China. The paper consists of four parts:The Introduction principally states the backgrounds, significance, methods, concepts and the research achievements of the topics.Chapter One mainly summarizes the regional environment and humanities background what northern grasslands rock art generated; then this chapter briefly introduces the variety of major pictures at Mont Yin.Chapter Two arranges in detail the reproductive rock-picture among pictures at Mont Yin. The first main point of this chapter is to introduce the archaeological discovery of the reproductive pictures, to classify them and to summarize their social purpose; the second main point of this chapter is to detailed state the discovery and distribution of the hoof-print pictures which belong to the reproductive pictures, and to explain carefully the image features and evolvement of the hoof-print pictures.Chapter Three divides into two bulks of ontology research and cultural interpretation. The first part concludes the relative historical documents and the significance of hoof-print pictures; the second part analyzes the artistic style and the characteristic of appreciation of the beauty of hoof-print pictures, and then deeply probes into their cultural functions such as sorcery activities and symbolization.The Rock Pictures at Mont Yin are one of the most precious Chinese traditional artistic relics, are the crystallizations of labour and wisdom created by Chinese ancient people. The Pictures of Hoof Prints, as one of the representatives of reproductive pictures in the Rock Art at Mont Yin, hold profound and lasting significance for exploiting sexual knowledge, unveiling the relationship of science and religious cult, researching self-replication and humanism opinion of human being, and provide assistance to comprehend the formidability of the tasks of inducing the reasons of the rapidly development of population in China and of controlling the development of population.
