This thesis studies the history of Jimo development from the original social, mainly focused on the development of Jimo in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The past researches more concentrated on the history after the establishment of Qingdao in the late nineteenth century. And the researches from1891when Qingdao built are also rare, no mention of complete study on the history of the Jimo region development or the researches on the change of Jimo center which including the urban area of Qingdao today. This paper argues that the German occupation of Qingdao and the colonization in1897was indeed a significant opportunity for rapid development of Qingdao. However, Qingdao city was included in Jimo scope for a long time Jimo development was the critical factor for Qingdao development. In Ming dynasty, the site of Jimo was the centre of Jimo. Due to coastal defense needs, the areas which were relatively far from the the site began to built certain scale military sites. It included Fushansuo in today Qingdao. In Qing dynasty, the civil administration inherited some features in Ming dynasty. The execution of Weisuo has changed some military sites to civil administration sites. Jimo developed a number of new features. However, the build of Qingdao and the beginning of German colonization in late Qing dynasty completely changed the originally relatively stable state.Through this paper, you can clearly see the center of Jimo city transferred from the sites to the coastal areas which were relative marginalization and today's Qingdao City District area.
