This article aims at making a further understanding about Ma Dai by combining a textual research of his life experiences and social activities with an analysis of his texts. On the basis of this further understanding which relates to his life, we will make sense of the important elements on Ma Dai's poems, such as the heart of his poems, the style of his poems, the art feature of his poems and the context of his poems. According to the above, we can promote the individual study about the primary and secondary poets of Tang Dynasty.This paper is composed of two parts. The first part belongs to textual research and the second part belongs to analysis research.The first part which includes four chapters mainly studied the natal, obituary year and the original birthplace of this poet. Chapter two studies several persons whose names appeared in his poems. Chapter three is to give a detailed research to the mis-collected poems signed by Ma Dai in "The Entire Poems of Tang Dynasty". And the last chapter focuses the researches on the lost poems of Ma Dai.The second part has seven chapters. I regarded the first chapter as researches on communications among Ma Dai and his good friends, for the purpose of figuring out the influences which brought about to his poems by such communications. Chapter two mainly researches about the poems which were written by Ma Dai after failing in the imperial exams.The third chapter discusses the language of his poems. Chapter four discusses the singing-poems respectively about Ma Daj,Yao He and Jia Dao. Chapter five studies the scenic poems, frontier poems and reminiscent poems. The next chapter studies the art features of Ma Dai's poems and the last chapter mainly studies the acceptance of Ma Dai's poems by means of quantitative analysis.
