As one of the most important forms of presenting information, characters are not only tools of presenting information or culture carriers, but also work of art of a nation or an age. Chinese characters are the oldest characters in the world, which are signs of combinations of thinking in terms of images and rational thinking of Han nationality for thousands of years.For a long time, people have been interested in the research of Chinese characters, and discussed the spiritual connotation and artistic expression of them. After entering the information age, the functions of Chinese characters changed in the environment of diversification and information. The visual communication of Chinese characters not only focused on a good performance of art, but also paid attention to the functions of presenting information which combined with the characteristics of media.The text which re-examine Chinese characters from a perspective of information design brake the traditional aesthetic analysis of Chinese characters. It also analyzed Chinese characters combined with components and modes of communication add on the impact of media on visual performance of Chinese characters. Starting from the psychological needs of the audience, and taking good advantage of the communication benefit of Chinese characters in an information society, we could create a more convenient visual environment to the audiences in modern information design. We could also explore a more suitable road of development of information and visual presenting for Chinese characters in efficiency of communication of Chinese characters. Finally, it is high time that Chinese characters which agglomerated 5000 years culture should be carried forward in this information age.
