David Lodge is an international contemporary England author with a dual identity of novelist and critic. The researchers are most interested in his "campus trilogy" among his works. This article is conducted to analyze the binary characteristics in this "campus trilogy" from the perspective of binary opposition. Then it points out that the binary characteristics is just superficial form, Lodge makes these binary characteristics merge with each other intentionally through these conversations and communications. The course from opposition to fusion is just the course that Lodge found the causes of the dilemma of modernist literature and postmodernist literature that he faced and tried to find a new way out.This paper is composed of five parts including introduction, chapter one, chapter two, chapter three and conclusion.Introduction briefly introduces the works of David Lodge and research situation of them at home and abroad. What's more, it makes a deep explanation of binary opposition schema in order to show that it is scientific and feasible to do research from this perspective.Chapter One, Several Binary Oppositions in the Novel, analyzes a few obvious binary characteristics from underlying level of novel. These binary characteristics are referred to plots and characters and set up intentionally by Lodge, which organizes an irony effect to increase the readability of the work.Chapter Two, Binary characteristics of realism and modernism/pos-modernism is the critical part of this thesis. This part puts emphasis on the binary characteristics of realism and modernism/postmodernism.Chapter Three, From Opposition to Fusion, is also an important part of this article. This part is mainly to discuss the reason, purpose and significance of "campus trilogy" His purpose was to express the fusion of multiple factors through this communication. And it points out that the course of fusion is just the course that Lodge thinks over the dilemma of modernist literature and postmodernist literature that he faced and tried to find a new way out.The Conclusion, stresses more on the course from binary oppositions to fusion.And points out Lodge has an important position in the literature history of Britain.
