In the context of globalization, with the development of the multiculturalism, cultural identity has become one of the crucial research points in the field of social sciences and humanities. As one of the fastest growing countries in recent years, China plays a vital role in many aspects in the world, such as politics, economy and culture. In the trend of cosmopolitanism, the dissemination of Chinese culture has become a pressing need for the mutual cultural understanding between China and the outside world. Yet, in the process of cultural dissemination, cultural globalization has also challenged the national cultural identity of China. As a vital medium for international communication, translation is an irreplaceable means to introduce authentic Chinese culture to other countries.The dissertation builds on the post-colonial translation theory to explore the necessity, main strategies and significance of promoting China English in translation from the perspective of Ethics of Difference. It points out that China should defense the newly colonial expansion in culture, and present the authentic and profound Chinese culture to foreign readers by actively communicating with foreign countries. Thus, the national cultural identity of China can be preserved and reconstructed under the circumstance of cosmopolitanism.At the beginning, this thesis discusses the trend of cosmopolitanism in the new era, the relationship between cultural identity and translation, and the difference between China English and Chinese English. Then, it builds up the theoretical framework of this thesis on the basis of post-colonial translation theory and Venuti's Ethics of Difference. Finally, it analyses the situation of culture assimilation and marginalization in cultural globalization, advocates Venuti's foreignization translation strategy for disseminating distinctive national culture, explores China English in three aspects, namely politics, economy and culture, to represent the cultural identity, and argues how China can preserve and improve its national cultural identity in the cultural crisis. |
