A Research On The Narrative Style Of Eco-documentary From The Perspective Of Eco-criticism

In the field of contemporary documentary film,Eco-documentary is relatively more important and accounts for a great proportion.Compared to other kinds of documentary,it has its own distinctive features in terms of narrative style.In contexts of contemporary ecology, ecological philosophy, ecological ethics, and literary and cultural ecocriticism ,the narrative style and features of eco-documentary can be discovered and explored by means of film interpretation, hence problems during the creation of contemporary eco-documentaries can be analyzed.Starting with the the field defination of eco-documentary, this thesis discusses the narrative features of narrative style in the narrative of contemporary motif, symbol systems, the narrative focus, narrative structure and narrative aspects of aesthetic features : Contemporary eco-documentary has similarities in the aspect of motif with fictional films;it shares the same structure of symbol systems with other ecological fictional films; Due to the narrative structure,it follows the classic narrative style of Hollywood; it embodies the aesthetic characteristics of the "new natural aesthetics" concept. By explaining these narrative tyles, combined with critical theories of contemporary culture and ecology,with interpretion on some representative contemporary eco-documentaries, this article shows that there is strong entertainment orientated in narrative of the eco-documentary.The narrative discourse of contemporary ecological documentary differs ,too,due to the creators with different ecological views. Meanwhile, through discussion it can be found in contemporary eco-documentary that ethics is relatively weak, unreliable narration also affects the credibility of the documentary seriously, In other words,during the creative process of today's eco-documentary, the narrative development of the eco-documentary exposes ethical issues of the creation of the eco-documentary. At the end, the paper provides furthermore some considerable inspirations of chinese aesthetics and natural aesthetics of ecological theories on chinese eco-documentary .
