Not only domestic relevant policies and researches, but also foreign advanced teaching experiences, all indicate and prove that ESP taking the place of traditional EGP will become an important direction for the future college English education development in China. Therefore, the demands for qualified ESP teachers will be large as our college English teaching reform develops; the qualities of our ESP teachers may even affect domestic college English teaching reform process. However, China's ESP teachers are mainly made up by EGP teachers and outstanding graduates from English major. Although becoming increasingly aware of the importance of ESP capabilities, they are suffering from the lack of personal experiences and practical relevant language skills of ESP applications, and often feel powerless and difficult in ESP teaching. Accordingly, this thesis attempts to apply the relevant genre theories in the ESP teacher education. The advantages of such a model of genre-based ESP teacher education by providing corpus-based genre analysis as the mediation between"linguistic theories"and"ESP classroom", lies its flexibility and efficiency of application to use relevant genre and corpus linguistics theories to analyze unfamiliar target language, so empowering student teachers to develop autonomous language capabilities, and to apply these professional understandings of the language in ESP teaching. Following this model, student teachers will develop the capabilities of applying these professional knowledges in ESP settings. In this paper, a theoretical analysis and empirical research of the model proved that the genre-based ESP teacher education model is feasible and effective.
