| Mudu, an ancient cultural town, situated in the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, is not only featured by a unique garden culture and typical riverside scenery but also enjoys a long history with an abundance of humanities and cultures, which lays a solid foundation for its urban cultural construction. With the rapid development of its economy and the ideological promotion of its people, Mudu has achieved rapid and significant progress in its cultural development since the adoption of reform and opening-up policy. However, Mudu's cultural localization nowadays is being seriously challenged by cultural globalization brought about by the globalized technology and the globalized mode of production, thus gradually causing the elimination of the local cultural diversities. Consequently, large quantities of cultural heritages of the ancient town have been and are still being damaged and the original historical sites are disappearing as well. Inevitably, these changes are weakening the residents'psychological acceptance of and their sense of belonging to the local culture. This thesis is intended to comb through and review what Mudu has achieved in its urban cultural construction since the reform and opening-up. Meanwhile, the gains as well as the losses during the process are theoretically analyzed. Furthermore, a research is also included on how to promote the sustainable and harmonious development of the ancient town during the course of urban cultural construction. Last but not least, some personal opinions on Mudu's future urban cultural construction will also be brought forward, which will hopefully be beneficial to the construction of the ancient town. |
