Translator's Subjectivity has been a hot topic in the translation studies in recent years, and it has been affected and influenced by pragmatics, philosophy, and hermeneutics and so on. However, the main study is still on the translation methods and there are few researches on the selection of translation materials. Therefore, Skopostheory and Reader-response Criticism Theory are applied in this thesis to testify the reflection of translator's subjectivity on the selection of materials translated during the May Fourth Movement. The literary study of the May Fourth Movement plays an important part in the history of Chinese literature. The New Culture Movement had great impacts on China's culture, economy, society and other fields at that time. The translated literature during the May Fourth Movement was of great significance which was called as the third climax in the history of Chinese translation. Most of the researches prefer to explore the methods of translation. The author has made great efforts to screen and summarize the previous definition of the translator's subjectivity and then defines its own proper one of this thesis. Namely, translators'subjectivity should be a dynamic and intentional communication among the subject, the original version and the reader. These three parts are connected closely by Skopostheory. In this thesis, translator's subjectivity has been discussed and analyzed from the perspective of historical, theoretical and practical perspectives, and then the author summarizes the main factors that may influence the selection of materials, which contain translator's educational and cultural background, translation principle, the translators' purpose, the translator's writing style and mechanics. Therefore, we come to the conclusion that the translator's subjectivity reflects variously under different theories.Through the study, it is easy to find out that the selection of materials translated during the May Fourth Movement is prosperous in the popular literature which is coincident with the need of the public. The selection focuses on the works that may encourage the public, inspire patriotism of the young people and have sympathy with the people of the lower-class.
