| With the trend of globalization, English has become increasingly important. From the beginning of 21st century, Chinese people have attached greater importance to English learning, which undergoes a booming. College English teaching, as the last but not the least part of the line of English teaching, draws a lot of attention in these years. Teaching materials, as one of the basic involving element in College English teaching, draw a lot of closer study as well. With the development of College English, materials of different kinds, of different levels are flourishing. Material analysis and study follow the trend.Application-oriented College English Course is published in September,2009 by Shanghai Jiaotong University Press. City College, Wenzhou University, where the author works, is one of the schools which first use this textbook. Because of the using experience and the response of surrounding teachers and students, the author chose this textbook as an example to have a closer study on college English teaching materials. The author chooses to take the viewpoint of students. Students are actually the major user of the teaching material, but unfortunately their ideas and opinion on teaching materials are ignored. This study first collects data through questionnaire and interview with students. With the analysis and investigation of the needs of students, the study has a closer analysis of the textbook. Through comparing and matching the students'needs and their opinions on the textbook, the thesis gets a result of study---the textbook suits the students well.This thesis is aimed on one hand to provide some practical suggestions for the further publishing and revising of teaching materials, and on the other hand to shed some light on the undergoing college English teaching reform. If there are more researches of this kind upcoming, this thesis will be greatly rewarding. |
