Herbert Marcuse (1898——1979) is the main representative Frankfurt leftist, also the most radical representatives of Western Marxism. In the mid 1950 of the 20th century, the Western countries gradually entered the stage of advanced industrial society. Technological progress had brought mankind into high degree of material civilization, and it conversely had a negative effect on the society --dehumanizing living conditions has become increasingly serious. In this case, to achieve a true human liberation, Marcuse wished to establish a new approach as a form of enlightenment, to awaken the developed industry for the purpose of the real needs of the community, to liberate the human as the ultimate goal, so as to inspire the people's capable of critical consciousness and revolutionary theory of negative thinking.The whole text includes five parts. The first part describes Marcuse's theory of revolution and its'formation. After the Second World War, capitalist economies developed rapidly, political centralization grew seriously, single culture eroded people's souls. Marcuse absorbed the Hegel's rationalism, Marx's alienation theory and Freudian's psychoanalysis, with which he re-thought person's way of life. The second part describes the main contents of Marcuse's theory of revolution, including natural theory of revolution, love revolution, as well as the revolution in art theory. Part three analyses the substance of Marcuse's theory of revolution and predicament. It discusses the plight of revolutionary theory on two levels from the theoretical and practical. It mainly illustrates the revolutionary theory of Marcuse's utopian of romanticism, based on the dilemma of revolutionary cause, revolutionary body and revolutionary road. Part four inspects the Marcuse's theoretical significance and practical significance of the theory of the revolution. Combined with the reality of socialism with Chinese characteristics, we should protect the environment, focusing on ecological balance; establish a correct Outlook on Science and technology development; highlight humanistic care, and focus on people free and comprehensive development, and promote the construction of a harmonious society. Part five is the conclusion. It simply reviews on Marcuse's theory of revolution and looks to the future of human freedom and comprehensive liberation.
