| Crosstalk is a traditional Chinese art form. After so many years'development, it has become"a living necessity"warmly welcomed by people. Quite different from humor in other art forms, humor in crosstalk mainly depends on the unique language-forming device which is called"package"."Package"is the essence of crosstalk and central representation of humor in crosstalk. In the 1990s, the American cognitive linguist Gilles Fauconnier proposed Conceptual Integration Theory. Since then, researchers at home and abroad attach much importance to its powerful interpretation and also apply it to the study of linguistic and non-linguistic phenomena. There is much work about applying Conceptual Integration Theory to humor, while the research on applying this theory to the humor of"package"in crosstalk is rare. This thesis attempts to approach"package"in Chinese crosstalk from the perspective of Conceptual Integration Theory. The pieces of crosstalk which are taken as examples are all traditional ones, including comic monologues, comic dialogues and group of comic monologues, and they are grouped into five categories: simplex networks, mirror networks, single networks, double networks and multiple networks. This thesis explains them respectively by analyzing the different ways of package-forming process and the conceptual integration process. Thus, it not only provides a new perspective for studying crosstalk, but enriches the application of Conceptual Integration Theory to some degree. |
