Lu Xun(1881~1936), a famous writer, thinker and revolutionist, is also a well-known translator. The research objective in this paper is Lu Xun's translation activities. In the paper, his translation activities are divided into three parts, which are translation choices, translation strategies and translation criticism. Translation choices contain children literature, works of weak countries, early Marxism's works, science fiction, Japanese modern literature and modern literary theory. Translation strategies include literal translation, free translation and retranslation. Translation criticism in thesis involves Lu Xun's theories of translation criticism and his translation criticism practices.The theoretical basis in the paper is manipulation theory of manipulation school which is represented by AndréLefevere. In his mind, he believes translation is the main rewriting form and served for power through specific method to rewrite the version. In the end, translation is made to correspond with specific ideology and poetics in the specific society. He considers there are two factors, external and internal, controlling literature system. These two factors include patronage and so-called professionals with patronage care more about ideology of literature and professionals pay more attention to poetics. As a way of manipulation of original text, translation reflects specific ideology and poetics.In this paper, the most important part is exploration how the ideology and poetics influence Lu Xun's translation activities. Ideology contains social and political ideology, cultural ideology, personal ideology and creational ideology. Poetics contains factors which exist in the language and literature system itself, such as syntax and words.After studying previous research of Lu Xun's translation activities and author's studies, author finds out that previous research mainly focuses on his literature creation. Even in the aspect of his translation research, there are not so much studies. Author wants to rich Lu Xun's translation studies from the perspective of ideology and poetics in manipulation theory. Creative work in this thesis is analysis of Lu Xun's translation activities from the perspective of poetics. In addition, in part of ideology, cultural ideology and creational ideology is taken into consideration. Through the thesis, author concludes that ideology and poetics indeed influence Lu Xun's translation activities. |
