| This thesis is a study of style in English translation of nostalgic Tang poetry. It starts from the hot issue discussed in translating imagery and"Three Beauties"translation theory, reviews ancient and modern translators'viewpoints about translating imagery and"Three Beauties"translation theory, and introduces English translation theory of Tang poetry. Poetry is the art and essence the language and imagery is the soul and key of poetry appreciation, so whether imagery is appropriately interpreted and translated can be the key to successful communication of the beauty in meaning in English translation to classical Chinese poetry. This thesis is a systematic study of translatability of imagery, translation principles and strategies in translating Tang poetry into English based on the traditional Chinese imagery theory and combined foreign and Chinese scholars'research achievements in poetry translation from the perspective of imagery. This thesis also quotes Professor Xu Yuanchong's"Three Beauties"translation theory:"Poetry translation should fully embody importance and necessity of'beautifying the art and creating excellence'in Tang poetry English translation. This thesis attempts to summarize successful experiences of nostalgic Tang poems translation and contribute to the diversified development of translation cause. |
