A Study On Yantai's Yu Huangding Paper-cut Under Transcultural Vision

This thesis focuses on Yantai's Yu huangding paper-cut which was turned out in three to four decades of the 20th century. This special paper-cut was created by western missionaries. Its patterns are Western Christianities,Yantai customs and Chinese traditional culture. The paper-cut method was the combination of Chinese and Western.,and it becomed a special one of yantai paper-cut.The paper-cut also packed and exported to foreign countries.Its quantity sold was very large, and it's the frist large number of export in chinese paper-cut area.Because the method of Yuhuangding paper-cut was combind Chinese and Wesrern,so it could be accepted by chinese and weasterners.This special type spreaded the Western Christianities to chinese and the Chinese traditional culture to weasterners.,so it also promoted cultural exchange.Some material in this thesis is first-hand information , because it is brought from America by Professor He. The author of this article using the methods of Historical Research, Art Studies and so on to try to interpret Yu huangding paper-cut prpoerly.The introduction explains the reasons and significances of Yantai's Yu huangding paper-cut,and gives the a brief account of research achievements written by predecessors.Chapter one analyzes the special culture and geography location of Yantai's Yu huangding paper-cut. Because of the special location ,this special paper-cut type could be turned out in Yantai This chapter analyzes the reasons from geography location of Yantai , rich traditional culture and Western Christianities resources.Chapter two anlayzes the art environment of Yantai that produces all art of here.The success of Yantai's Yu huangding paper-cut was not seperated from the rich art environment.This chapter analyzes the tradtional paper-cut of Yantai,the intellectual paper-cut which was produced by the old scholars,and the Christian paper-cut,and try to analyze the inside reasons of the turned out of yuhuangding paper-cut.The main part of this thesis is the chapter three,four and five.Chapter three anlyzes the starting and general characteristic of this paper-cut .The of paper-cut was borrowed and transformed from chinese tradtional paper-cut,so chapter four analyzes the points from the views of Cultural Transposition,Cultural Compensation ,Cultural Deletion and Cultural Borrowing. Chapter five analyzes the Historical value and Significance of Yantai's Yu huangding paper-cut,and try to introduce the special type comprehensively.The conclusion is the extension of this article,the author points out the developing way of modern panper-cut ,we should follow the the thought that was proposed by Fei Xiaotong who is the greaest Anthropologist of China"Every form of beauty has its uniqueness.Precious is to appreciate other forms of beauty with openness.If beauty represents itself with diversity and integrity.The world will be blessed with harmony and unity".If we do that, the folk arts will be more and more prosperly.
