George Orwell,who was one of the most influential writers of the 20th century,his political allegory novel Nineteen Eighty-Four brought him great international reputation, Nineteen Eighty-Four as the contemporary classic of the world literature, which is the precious spiritual wealth of mankind.The works of Orwell are always the popular topics in the academic circles, where the research of Nineteen Eighty-Four have further expanded to economic, social, cultural, psychological and other fields,but the text still has some space to study.This thesis will propose from two dimensions:the body and the space,in order to analyze the rule of totalitarian in the world of the text.Introduction gives an account of the life and works of Orwell; introduces the text Nineteen Eighty-Four and its ideological cautionary; briefly introduces the status quo of three dimensions on power, body, space about Nineteen Eighty-Four at home and abroad.The text contains 3 chapters:ChapterⅠAnalyzing the nightmare world in Nineteen Eighty-Four,totalitarianism as the capillary-like infiltrate work and lives of people in every field.Mainly using Hannah Arendt's totalitarian political discourse as the theoretical fulcrum.And discussing about three aspects:the purpose of totalitarian rule, power tools of totalitarian,and techniques of totalitarian.ChapterⅡAnalyzing Nineteen Eighty-Four from the dimension of body:the political body,the body of humanist,sexual discourse of the body.We can insight into the totalitarian mechanism of the totalitarian government in the light of body.ChapterⅢAnalyzing the relationship between space and body in the novel,and with the dimension of body to analyze the dimension of with the theory of panopticon and heterotopias of Foucault.Conclusion George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four inherited the tradition of anti-utopian literature,in connection with the dark side of the 20th century and the social and cultural distortions of human nature,the novel described a nightmarish picture in a totalitarian society,where the ruling of power everywhere.In the totalitarian world of Nineteen Eighty-Four,power comprehensively limits and controls the body and the space,with the relationship between space and body we can understand the political intentions of the novel.Although Nineteen Eighty-Four was written in the middle of 20 century,devoiding of human nature and the manipulation of social deformity is still chilling in the totalitarian government Nineteen Eighty-Four.As long as the wrong side of human nature and normal social phenomenon of abnormal development exist,the warm of anti-utopian in the novel of George Orwell plays an important role in social criticism and cultural significance.
