As a major category of photography, the human figures photography is increasingly permeating every aspect of our lives. Due to technical limitations, earlier human figures photography acted only as a tool of providing material for paintings. Many portrait painters and painting artists finished their paintings this way, and they would spend much too time on fixed imaging, thus with inadequate energy to consider the temperament and character of their subjects. Facial expressions and movements were mostly intended to serve the paintings. With the continuous improvement of photography tools, exposure time began to shorten and a new trend arose. New concepts were constantly given to what and how photos could communicate. The facial expressions in the images became more vivid, and verve capturing became the most important concern to a photographer of human figures. Many photographers began to devote themselves to photos which embodied their unique shooting style and communicated clearly their shooting purpose through the message conveyed by these photos. Photography has become a creative medium which a photographer uses to express his artistic search for the beautiful and the meaningful.Modern technology, especially digital photography, has provided photographers with every possible means of expressing the exterior forms of imaging than ever. However, it is very likely that photographers fail to capture the very essence and temperament intrinsic in human figures. With the enrichment of photographic theories, many human figures photographers have realized the importance of human figures photography and its influence on their artistic development. So in actual shooting and performing they focus on the characterization of their subjects through their lenses and in so doing revealed their desire for self-expression and their pursuit for artistic beauty. Whether used by photographers as a means of self-expression or of exploring the inner character of their subjects, photographic creation of either kind will inevitably reveal the photographer's subjective attitude towards his works. This thesis is intended to discuss the development of photography by focusing on various forms of invisible subjectivity in human figures photography. This study is not at all a traditional differentiation between photography for portraits and of human figures, nor an analysis from a technical point of view. With Through a systematic study of specific image information and related theories concerning human figures photography, the author intends to reinterpret the subjective expressions in human figures photographs. This paper first defines the meaning of subjectivity in photography and explores the subjective performance in actual shooting, which are done mainly by analyzing examples from two aspects. One aspect involves the subjectivity performance which centers on photographer, as displayed in photos of early human figures photography, produced mainly for paintings materials. The images in human figures photography appeared only as one of the important elements of art creation. Many artists use human figures as a media for photographer's inner expression. The other aspect involves the subjectivity performance surrounding subjects, which centers on human figures as a means of digging out the inner temperament of subjects with environment as a supplement to interpret the personalities of subjects and to further explore practical methods through the photographic creation.
