Buddhism, originated from ancient India, has formed a new Buddhist school after a long-term process of chinesization since introduced into china----zen, which is of typical Chinese characteristics.Among the thoughts and practice of zen, farming zen thoughts and practice, combined with traditional Chinese aerial farming and working, is of greatest Chinese features in particular. That's why great importance is always attached to it. Starting with seeking the origin of farming zen thoughts and practice, my essay cards the form and development of it, with the inheritance of zen as the clue. Then, the article explores the establishment of farming zen system as well as the historical significance of it, the symbol of the final establishment of farming zen system as the object. At last, my essay emerges the present-day situation of farming zen thoughts and practice. My essay includes four major chapters as follows:Chapter one focuses on the research on the origin of farming zen thoughts and practice. Firstly, It studies in detail the zen thoughts of zuhui and sengcan related to the origin of farming zen; then, the thoughts of dioxin and hongren involving the development and practice of it——"Dongshan Method" as well as the insight and practice on farming zen thoughts of huineng. This chapter mainly shows the process of the form of farming zen thoughts and the development of its practice.Chapter two, zen thoughts like " the heart is buddha","no heart,no buddha","the common heart is Tao" as object, makes research into master Ma-Zhu Dao-Yi's thoughts concerning working and cultivate; besides, it looks into the reasons why Ma-Zhu Dao-Yi established Cong-lin System and the process of it. The initiation of Cong-lin System, in fact, builds the standards of farming zen and practice, paving the way for the final establishment fo farming zen system and start of Baizhang Commandments。Chapter three mainly researches into Baizhang Commandments written by master Baizhanghuaihai, which is regarded as the symbol of the final establishment of farming zen thoughts. To begin with, it investigates the farming zen thoughts of Baizhanghuaihai, then it lays great emphasis on the background of Baizhang Commandments in addition to Puqing, which embodies farming zen thoughts and practice to the greatest degree. As Baizhang Commandments establishes, farming zen thoughts and practice has eventually been established as a system. Puqing are considered to be the core of farming zen system as well.Chapter four firstly investigates the development of the farming zen thoughts after Baizhanghuaihai. It talks about the effects of farming zen thoughts during the development of Buddhism itself, especially with taking "Humanistic Buddhism" by Zhaopuchu as an example. What's more, by studying the farming zen thoughts and practice in Zhenru temple in Jiangxi which is one of three sample Cong-lin, this chapter looks into the present status of farming zen practice.Lastly, it studies the historical significance of farming zen thoughts and practice which starts a new way of Buddhist meditation. Farming zen economy lays a comparatively independent economic foundation for the development of zen, and correspondingly, the establishment of farming zen system further advances the chinesization of Buddhism.
