Ever since their birth, the novels by Luyao have been standing distinguished against a wild array of the literary fashionable. With the western influence progressively set in,and literary trends and schools of all sorts surging unconventional,Luyao stuck obstinately to the realistic writings, culminating in a distinctive Luyao series as represented most preeminently by "The Ordinary World",thus constituting a fascinatingly invaluable peculiarity in the literary scene of the 1980s.The novels by Luyao have been more than tested from their very birth, enjoying the makings that are at once old and new. Critics'indifference has virtually had no effect on their profound and far-reaching reception and dissemination by a large readership of one generation after another.Idealism, coupled with a storng passion, not only renders his novels a transcendence over the the traditional realism, but infuses into them freshness and upsurge of life as well. The realistic writing skill Luyao clung tenaciously to has thereby manifested an inexhaustible vitality.Based on the text proper of Luyao's novels,as well as by evaluating his writings in terms of novel evolution and comparing them with novel writings from different perspectives, the present thesis makes an in-depth analysis of Luyao's novels regarding their inheritance, enrichment, development, and even inspiration of the contemporary realistic writing skills.Comparing the contemporary new-fashion novel writings and in the regressing trend toward realism, the present thesis finds in Luyao's novels an illuminating and illustrative value that the "facing-reality"realism and its writing skills have in the macro-context of the present time.In view of Luyao and his novels,we have every reason to believe that more power and vitality are sure to burst forth in the realistic works by successive generations of writers.
