Yuan quarter is an important period in the history of Chinese painting. The works of the four famous painters in Yuan Dynasty represent the highest painting achievements in this specific time. Meanwhile, a great amount of the poems marked with paintings produced by them have made outstanding contributions to promote the development of this kind of poems; moreover, the four painters have also played a decisive role in the history of Chinese poem, specifically speaking, they not only mature the poems marked with paintings, but also introduce new elements into the types of poems. In this thesis, the four famous painters in Yuan Dynasty are commented respectively. The author makes the characteristics of the four painters' poems marked with paintings as the main line, and discusses the similarities and differences among the four painters, so as to draw people's attention to their poems marked with paintings. At the opening of this thesis, the four painters' works, the definitions and developing processes of the poems marked with paintings are generally described to pave the way for the foundation of the chapters. In the followings, the four famous painters, NiZan, HuangGongwang, WuZhen and WangMeng are illustrated respectively. However, considering NiZan's many retained poems and his important status in the history of poems, the authors describe him in a separate chapter. On discussing each painter, the author mainly expands the chapters from their backgrounds to analysis of their paintings and poems to their styles combined with the comparisons between the four painters and the comparisons among the four painters and other painters. Therefore, the creative personalities of the four famous painters in Yuan Dynasty are revealed in the similarities and differences and their status and significances in the history of Chinese poems are explored. For NiZan, this thesis firstly generalizes that NiZan attach importance to the form via not only classifying the poems according to the form, but also figuring out the creative tides of each kind of poems. Secondly, the author emphatically analyses the images and artistic conception of NiZan's poems. NiZan is a recluse with nobility by nature. His personalities are lively embodied in the poems. He prefers the simple and delicate images, which reveal a lonely and bleak conception. Compared with TaoYuanming, the author takes seriously reading on commonness and differences and finds out the relationship of the two poets. Besides, the paper carries on the sense of tableau and rhythms as well as the style of the poetry. For the other poets——HuangGongwang, WuZhen and WangMeng, the paper, imaging the big from the small, summarizes and analyzes the poetry style from the form, language, image, and conception based on the few existent poems. In HuangGongwang's poems, he mainly sings warmth and brightness and speaks his mind directly. Generally the contents of WuZhen's poems could be classified into landscape, the seclusion, and the poems marked with bamboo paintings, which maintain their own features respectively. For WangMeng, he prefers to praise the ancient ethos and sign the present, so his poems are rich in the serious historical feelings. The three poets created lots of splendid and distinctive works. They are deserved to be paid attention to for further study.
