Counterinsurgency Study, The Early Days Of Yunnan

In the early period of PRC building, suppression of bandits in Yunnan is an important part of national counterinsurgency. Because of the people's government requisitioning of grain and tax directly touched their economic interests and social interests. Under the instigation of inducements by the KMT secret agents, they builded up armed forces united by a variety of old local military, tyrants and hooligans and illiberal chiefs, who are in an attempt to meet the KMT " Recovering the mainland" with an obviously political purposes to take cities and seize territory. Under the guidance of the CPC Central Military Commission and the Southwest Military Region, Yunnan Military Region took "First center then edge" steps of suppression through 3 stages, which are with the strategies of suppression with heavy troops, united suppression, stationed troops for suppression and suppression with international millitery cooperation, Yunnan Military Region took massed movement to participate actively with the local government to requisition taxation, reform land and suppress, meanwhile to Millitery suppression, Political disintegrate and Repression counter-revolutionary, which destroied bandits social and economic basis.122 thousand bandits were suppressed in 4 years, bandits are basically eliminated in Yunnan, which consolidate the new regime and the southwest border.
