Charles Dickens was the great realist writer in 19th century British, whose novels inherit the realism tradition of English novel. But his novels are not only realistic, in which we can find a lot of romantic factors, just like Gothic novel features. The article called the Dickens'novel with Gothic features as Dickens'Gothic novel.In Gothic novels of Dickens, the author welding terror, eerie, mysterious, magical and other Gothic qualities and realistic writing style together skillfully, which made his Gothic novel displaying the unique characteristics. These characteristics expressed concretely in the following three aspects: the setting of terror and closed scenes, the building of werid and distortion characterization, the arrangement of the magical and mystery plots in the Dickens'Gothic novel.Dickens'Gothic novel is the result of tradition development in Gothic literary tradition. There is aesthetic style of terrorist which is popular in English literature from "Beowulf". And by the late 18th and early 19th century, the Gothic literature tradition is formally established further in British Gothic novels, which influence on Charles Dickens deeply. What is more, Dickens'Gothic Novel also refer to his acception of the tradition, which relate to his childhood experience of terror and suffering of the Gothic color. His character also has the temperament of the Gothic villain. In addition, the purpose of writing is to make money and indoctrinate, which objectively requires his novels must be readable, so Dickens invoke to the "popular" and "entertainment," named Gothic novel.On the one hand, Gothic novels of Dickens expand the scene scope of the grotesque in fiction scene and the aesthetic. On the other hand, realistic writing of Dickens play a major complementary role, in bold Gothic novel Dickens exaggerated, fear, turned, the performance of idealism, both enrich and strengthen the creative techniques of realism Dickens. His novels of the Gothic literature made a subtle effect on the Gothic literary tradition, and play a certain role to make tradition continuity.
