The Analects of Confucius recorded sayings and dialogues of Confucius and his protege, and it is also considered as the classic work of Confucianism. It reflected the basic view of literature and art of the Confucians at its beginning. Huainanzi was written in the Ching-ti of the Western Han Dynasty, around 139 BC. The king of Huainan Liu An called it Liu's book and presented it to Emperor Wu. When Liu Xiang and his son proofread books of the Imperial reservations, they named this book Huainan. The book Huainanzi spreading now is actually the major component of Huainan.Huainanzi is the first book in the history considered Confucius as an uncrowned King, even though he didn't have any territory. That Sima Qian rated Confucius as one of the Shijia is also the same meaning. There are many quotes in Huainanzi which is from Analects of Confucius, and the thoughts of literary and art in Huainanzi inherited and developed that in the Analects of Confucius.This article has four chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction, and it divided into two. The first quarter is mainly about the literary theory of the Analects of Confucius. The second quarter is mainly about the literary theory of Huainanzi. Chapter 2 is about wen and zhi view in Huainanzi which inherited and developed that in the Analects of Confucius. The first quarter of chapter 2 is about the difference of the definitions of Zhi in the two books. Zhi was defined as "natural"in Huainanzi.The second quarter is about how Huainanzi inheriting and developing the theory of "The accomplishments and solid qualities are equally blended". The third quarter discuss how to mix rhetoric and emotion. Chapter 3 is about the poem and teaching view in Huainanzi which inherited and developed that in the Analects of Confucius. Chapter 4 is about the aesthetic which inherited and developed that in the Analects of Confucius. The last part is the summary of this article.The main point and the innovation of this article is the comparative study on the thoughts of literary and art in the Analects of Confucius and Huainanzi, and then sum up that in Huainanzi. There were some researchers discussed the thoughts of literary and art in either the Analects of Confucius or Huainanzi, but the comparative study of the two books is fragmentary. This article solves this problem.
