As a New-Literature writer,Yu Dafu always attached to writting the old style poetry. His literary creation began with the old style poetry and terminated in it as well. The old style poetry creation accompanied his unsettled life. His truthful feelings in the old style poems get the most stirring spiritual substance and reveal. His poetry was the true record of his life experience and demonstration of his forthright heart, frank personality, permeating his hot patriotic feelings. This paper attempts to analyze and interpret the poet's life experience, emotional change as well as his patriotic spirit through the research to Yu Dafu's old style poetry, using the method of "Poems Demonstrate the History". In addition, this paper tries to change the paranoid understand of Yu Dafu through the demonstration of the core theme of his poetry by inspecting Yu Dafu's emotions integrally and multi-dimensionally. Finally, to understand tough and painful choice of the poet when facing the situation of home-country perishment .This paper is composed of three parts: the Introduction, the Main Body and the Epilogue.The Introduction mainly demonstrates Yu Dafu's achievements in the old style poetry creation and the significance to research it.The Main Body includes three parts too, which are as follows. The first part is about general analysis of Yu Dafu's old style poetry creation,such as the foundation of his old style poetry,creative ways, his complex to the old style poetry and his creative character of emotion as the kernel. The second part is about the patriotic spirit demonstrated in his poetry from discussions of the source and the diversified connotation of Yu Dafu's patriotic feelings. The third part expounds Yu Dafu's strong patriotism shown in his complex emotional entanglements and choices. Although Yu Dafu has complicated and paradoxical emotion, he always place the country on top of of the individual. Whether it's a personal emotion and the patriotic emotion intertwinement, or a choice between life and death, or the hesitation between going into and withdrawing from the society,his lifelong Patriotic feelings never fades away.The Epilogue, as a summary,evaluates the patriotic poet Yu Dafu as a whole.
