The Study Of Gu Wen Yuan Jian

Gu Wen Yuan Jian is a large anthology of prose pieces which was choosen meticulously, annotated painstakingly, commented seriously and rivised repeatedly for twenty years before printing and publishing by KangXi Emperor and twelve ministers. Their motive was wanting to summarize the achievements of the researchs on the ancient chinese proses by the scholars of Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties through the selecting of the main body of the book and the deviation of comments. They judged the argument between The earlier and later QiZi and The School of Tang and Song on a wide field of vision, and mixed together the selected works and commentaries and the academical and political theories of seeking real learning and actual effects. They wanted to change the style of study and scholars,the practices of government offcials,the popular morale and the ways of the world through making the selection as an example of reading and writing ancient chinese proses to the emperor,ministers,nobilities and students. There are 1386 pieces of essaies, and 1391 pieces of comments written by KangXi Emperor, and 1096 pieces of comments written by the twelve ministers, and 2141 pieces of comments written by 120 scholars of Song,Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties. The comments all of the book are 170 thousands characters, and the thoughts and views and the artic characteristics of the contents of the comments are roughly fifty—fifty. These comments are concise, comprehensive, all—sided and profound. We can expound rich contents that the offcials of the earlier periods of Qing Dynasty maked extraordinaily painstaking efforts to reverse the style of writing, scholars and study which has important significance and is of value to research the situation of the changes of literature and culture between Ming and Qing Dinasty and the trend and causes of literature creating and critics of the Qing Dinasty.The thesis contains four parts:the first part is the research of the document which investigates the process of editing, editions and the achievements of the annotations;the second part is the the research of the selecting which investigates the thoughts, academical and literature trends contained in the selecting of the sections and chapters;the third part is the research of the comments which sums up the thoughts, academical and literature trends reflected from more than 3,000 pieces of comments written by 133 scholars;the last part is its influences on the academic and literature of the Qing Dynasty.The selection mixed the selecting, annotation and commentary together, so the thesis will adopt the method which mixes document research and the thoery of literature and art to investigate the selection thoroughly and elucodate the trend of value and cultural significance the selecting and commentary contains, on the basis of reading. Meanwhile the thesis wants to expose the significance, historic status and the profound and lasting influence of Gu Wen Yuan Jian, in the light of the literature tend between Ming and Qing Dynasty, and the cultural and academical conditions KangXi Emperor was infaced with, and the psychology he wanted to change the style of writing, scholars and study urgently.
