Liu Xiyi is a important poet in early Tang dynasty. His poems continue the Han-Wei and the Six Dynasties and uphold the best Tang. He plays an important role in the climax of the Tang poetry, and also does great influence on later literary. But now there is less study on him, the writer tries to do a more systemic research of Liu Xiyi on the basis of previous ones.This paper includes three aspects, first, Liu Xiyi's lifetime. He was in Ruzhou and was the poet in early Tang Dynasty.He was born in 651.He traveled Zaoyang, the south of China and Sichuan. At last, he came back to his hometown. He died in 678 to 680. One reason of his death was that he was killed by Song Zhiwen, but it seems not true. Second, the uniqueness of Liu's poetry. Based on the analysis of Liu's poetry, compared his poetry to the four famous poets in the same time can summarize the uniqueness of Liu's poetry. His poetry use less dual and allusions, more appropriate rhyme makes poetry nature, phonological coordination, and fluent. They are short length and far-reaching artistic conception. They are influenced by Yuefu folk songs and natural style, the language is soft and beautiful.Third, it discusses the era significance of Liu Xiyi's poetry and the influence on later literature. He inherited Han-Wei-the six dynasties poetry's essence, his poetry directly inspired Zhang Ruoxu, to and Gao Shi in the later Tang dynasty, and also the later Li and Du's poetry production. His accumulated valuable experience of the creation of artistic conception in his poetry also provides a good example for the artistic characteristics of Tang poetry. The influence of later literature mainly manifests in Wu Weiye's Meicun style and the song of burying flower in A Dream of Red Mansions.
