| William Golding is one of the few British writers who won the Nobel Prize for Literature. His works are concerned for the depiction of human nature and the depth of the human condition in today's society. He examined the complexity of human nature in the non-rational perspective and excavated out the hidden evil in human nature. Finally, he gained the conclusion- human nature is irrational. In his view, The downfall of humanity is inevitable.the irrational component of human nature was far huger than the human's imagination. The human, fitted with the original desired shackles, lives in choas. For a long time, his creation was only studied in the pattern, plot- people- topics in a limited single product. But William Golding's unique understanding of human nature was rarely studied.In this paper, analysis on the themes, characters and creative methods for Lord of the Flies,Pincher Martin,Darkness Visible,The Pyramid was to reveal the theme- the irrational human nature.Full text are divided into five parts:The introduction presents the status and results of the study of William Golding at home and abroad.The first chapter provides a brief overview for Golding's unique understanding of human nature and discusses the causes of his thoughts from interests, irrational thoughts, traditional literary and experiences of World War II.The second chapter highlights William Golding's profound understanding of human nature and takes "Lord of the Flies", "Darkness Visible", "pyramid" as examples to illustrate the non-rational perspective of human nature.The third chapter studies how to present the essence of human nature through setting from the plots, character shape, the use of imagery, allegorical mode to emulate.The fourth chapter discusses William Golding's salvation road for mankind and the reflections. The conclusion summarizes the deficiencies of William Golding's works. |
