For the best of opera culture, and to encourage more young people to accept opera in the cultural life, Ministry of Education introduced two years ago the Peking Opera into the classroom of the provinces and cities in China. Besides Peking Opera, various local operas also can enter the classroom. China has vast territory where dialect tunes coexist; folk customs vary widely and local operas are of great variety. Local opera's value is more than it is geographical size; it carries strong regional culture and history. In this background, Anhui Province, to encourage local opera education, proactively introduces the local opera into provincial schools. When the pilot schools gain enough experience in the implementation of "Sizhou Opera in the Classroom" activities, the education will gradually be spread to wider areas, to let it take root among the masses. Located in the birthplace of the Sizhou Opera, No.1 Elementary school of Si county is one of the pilots. It has successfully established a children's art troupe, learning to sing Sizhou Opera.The "Drama in the Classroom" curriculum studies can benefit students in not only increasing love for traditional culture, arts but also can prompt students to actively explore opera culture; which in turn is beneficial to the development and the use of local drama resources for students who like these local music.
