Scorpion venom has many peptides with unique bioactivity, which possesses important clinic value. There are some functions such as antitumor, analgesic, anti- eclampsia, anti-epilepsy, blood pressure falling and anti-forming of thrombus, etc. This paper paid more attention to the analgesic activity. One new analgesic peptide named SAP V was isolated and purified from the scorpion venom of Buthus martensii Karsch by four chromatographies. Its purity was demonstrated by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, reverse phase ion-pair chromatography and high performance capillary electrophoresis. Its molecular weight is 8.9K by measurement of SDS- polyacrylamide gel electro- phoresis. Its maximum UV adsorption wave-length is 278.4nm .Its isoelectric point was 8.77 determined by isoelectric focusing electrophoresis. The N- terminal first 20 amino acid sequence of SAP V was sequenced by Edman degrading. The results of mouse writhing test showed that SAP V has inhibitive effect on visceraglgia. At a dose of 0.1mg/kg body weight, SAP V inhibited the 70% of the twisting action of the mice induced by acetic acid.
