Objective:This study is to explore HBX gene expression in salivary gland cancer specimens and the correlative analysis between hepatitis B virus infection and salivary gland cancer in order to provide a theoretical basis for the treatment of salivary gland cancer.Methods:From2009to2011,blood samples were collected routinely from a total of127504patients at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.Affiliated Stomatologiyal Hospital of Kunming Medical University, and then were tested for the presence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs), hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg), hepatitis B e antibody (anti-HBe) and hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Expression of HBV., HBsAg and HBcAg was detected in the frozen salivary gland with benign or mali; nant tumor specimens using immunohistochemical technique. Expression of HBX was detected by Image-Pro plus6.0. PCR and protein gel electrophoresiswas employed to detect expression of HBV.The clinical data were collected in MS Excel2003and further analyzed with SPSS version13.0.Results:1)The prevalence of exposure to HBV(indicated by the presence of anti-HBe) was significantly higher among male patients than among female:2)expression of HBX was detected in salivary gland cancer specimens.presented mainly in the cytoplasm;3)expression of HBX was detected in salivary gland tumor. Conclusion:1)the prevalence of exposure to HBV(indicated by the presence of anti-HBe) has significant differences between male patients and female;2)HBX represents in the salivary gland cancer, which may be associated with the development of salivary gland cancer;3)HBX correlated with salivary gland cancer;4)Patients with hepatitis B are more vulnerable to salivary gland cancer, early treatment and prevention of hepatitis B can reduce the incidence of salivary gland cance.
