Objective To investigate the expressive significance of matrix metalloproteinase-7 (MMP-7)and basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF)in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) and explore the correlation between the expression and tumor differentiation,staging, lymph node metastasis or MVD,and to elucidate the role of MMP7 and bFGF in tumor occurrence,invasion and metastasis of NSCLC.Methods The expression of MMP-7 and bFGF in 80 cases of NSCLC and 40 cases of normal lung tissue was detected immunohistochemically by SP method.Results 1.The positive rate of MMP-7 and bFGF was higher both in NSCLC group than that in normal lung tissue (χ2=35.276,χ2=32.411, P=0.000).2.In NSCLC,the expression of MMP-7 and both of MMP-7 and bFGF in stagingⅢ-Ⅳgroup was significantly different from the stagingⅠ-Ⅱgroup (χ2=5.262,P=0.022;χ2=7.336,P=0.007). The expression of bFGF and both of MMP-7 and bFGF in G3 group of NSCLC was also significantly different from G1-G2 group(χ2=6.190,P=0.013;χ2=12.747,P=0.000). The expression of MMP-7 and bFGF in group with Lymph node metastasis was also significantly different from that in group without Lymph node metastasis (χ2=9.139,P=0.003;χ2=12.584,P=0.000).MVD in MMP-7 and bFGF positive tumors was significantly higher than that in negative tumors(P=0.000).3.The expression of MMP-7 was positively correlated to bFGF in NSCLC (r=0.377,P=0.001).Conclusion The results indicate that both MMP-7 and bFGF may participate in the process of occurrance and progression in NSCLC, and may have synergistic effet during this process. Combined detection of MMP-7 and bFGF may be a effective parameter in evaluate occurrance, progression and prognosis of NSCLC, and may also have important clinical significance in early prediction of NSCLC.
