Background and ObjectiveRespiratory infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae are characterized by high rates of mortality and morbidity. Management of these infections is often difficult, due to the high frequency of strains that are resistant to multiple antimicrobial agents. In recent years, carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae is increasing year by year. The main mechanism is the production of carbapenemase, especially K. pneumoniae carbapenemase. Highly producing cephalosporinase or superspectrum β-lactamase combined with loss of membrane proteins is another important mechanism. We collect the cases of sputum samples pneumonia of klebsiella pneumoniae in intensive care unit (ICU) in order to know the antimicrobial resistance of K. pneumoniae.MethodsTotal of265cases of sputum samples pneumonia of K. pneumoniae from January2008to June2011were collected. VITEK-32system analyzer was used to identify the microbe. The drug susceptibility was tested with the K-B method and the ESBLs producing strains detected by diffusion confirmed test. With the modified Hodge test to detect KPC-Enzyme. The antimicrobial susceptibility data was analyzed by WHONET5.3software.ResultsThe antimicrobial resistance rates of K. pneumoniae to common antimicrobial drugs inereased in the past4years. The drug resistance rate of ESBLs producing K. pneumoniae was higher than that in non-producing ESBLs one. The antimicrobial susceptibility testing showed that cefoperazone-sulbactam, carbapenems, fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides have higher sensitivity. The antimicrobial resistance rates of K. pneumoniae to carbapenems inereased in2011.ConclusionThe drug resistance of K. pneumoniae is a serious problem. The isolated rates of ESBLs producing K. pneumoniae are high. Carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae is increasing. Attention should be paid to the epidemic status of strains and rational use of antimicrobials agents in clinical deparmaent.
