Objective Hirschsprung's Disease(HD) is one of the most common pediatric gastrointestinal developmental malformations as well as a multi-gene neurological disease. The treatment of Hirschsprung's Disease is mainly based on surgery which has several surgical methods.Soave phase I prolapsing surgery via anus is a new surgical method treating HD while in the past mainly on modified Duhamel surgery. In this paper we mainly discuss the difference of efficacy between Soave phase I prolapsing surgery via anus and that of modified radical Duhamel surgery for Hirschsprung's Disease so as to direct the surgical treatment of HD suffered children henceforth.Method Retrospective investigation of the rectal functional recovery was carried out on 39 HD cases of Soave Surgery and 39 cases of Duhamel Surgery respectively after the operation. We have collected 39 HD cases of Soave phase I prolapsing surgery via anus since March 2005 as the Soave group and 39 HD cases of modified radical Duhamel surgery before March 2005 as the Duhamel group in the department of pediatric surgery of the affiliated hospital of medical college of Qingdao University. we acquired follow-up information with the contents including defecation conditions and the all kinds of long-term postoperative complications, etc. and recording the various data by means of the telephone communication or with the reviewing to the hospital. The duration of operation, blooding volume, taking food time after the operation, the hospitalization length, the expense in hospital and the postoperative complications were recorded respectively of the two groups.T test were adopted t test to compare the duration of operation, blooding volume, taking food time after the operation, the hospitalization length and the expense in hospital andĪ‡2 test to compare the postoperative complications of the two groups respectively. We employed SPSS13.0 software to deal with the data. The difference was significant if P< 0.05.Result The duration of operation, bleeding volume, taking food time after the operation, the hospitalization length and the expense in hospital of the Soave group are less than those of Duhamel group(P<0.05);but there is no significance between the two groups on the postoperative complications (P>0.05) although the complications of the Duhamel group are a little higher than those of the Soave group. Conclusion Soave phase I prolapsing surgery via anus with the advantages of simple operation, little damage, shorter hospital stay, lower cost, eating earlier, recoverying rapidly after the operation, fewer complications, etc.,and with high availability and security is a new surgical method for treatment for patients with HD. The treatment outcome of the Soave surgery which deserves popularizing and applying is better than that of the modified Duhamel radical surgery.
