Effect Evaluation Of Non-hazardous Excrement Disposal Of Urn Type Plastic Septic Tanks

Objective Evaluating the effect of the non-hazardous excrement disposal of urn type plastic septic tanks and knowing the current situation of environmental hygiene of peasants'household toilets and the management of the use of toilets. It can provide evidence for extending the proper use and installation of urn type plastic septic tanks.Methods The methods of field environmental epidemiological study and the laboratory analysis were used. According to regional distribution requirements of North of the Huaihe River and South of the Yangtze and associating with three or two urns type plastic septic tanks and the Information of consumers who installed and used it properly from 2007 to 2008 that supplied by an Environment Science & Technology Co., Ltd in Anhui, we totally sampled 60 consumers as respondents by adopting the principles of convenience sampling. We collected the mixture in every urn of their urn type plastic septic tanks and tested its indexes such as fecal coli form, roundworm eggs, Hookworm eggs, cercariae ( miracidium is tested by schistosome ggs),etc. To know the information of peasant families(including age of the head of household, degree of education, household income, family permanent population and so on),the current situation of environmental hygiene and the management of the use of toilets(including Toilet type, location of toilets, Installation time, the toilet whether has a top and wall, the pit of toilet whether is rinsed after peasant using it every time, cleanliness of toilet , fly maggot in toilet room, toilet room smell, excrement storage urn whether has leakages, excrement storage urn whether has lid, the volume, smell, color, Mosquitoes and fly of liquid excrement within the urn, excrement clean-up time, etc.) and users'Subjective feelings(satisfaction, Acceptability and so on)after using three or two urns type plastic septic tanks.Results 60 users surveyed in the three urn user 32,double urn septic tanks user 28. The area north of the Huaihe River(Fuyang) user 35,south of the Yangtze River (Jiujiang and Jingde Zhen) user 25, in which the area north of the Huaihe River the main Double urn septic tanks take accounting for 77.1%(27/35),south of the Yangtze River the main Three urn septic tanks take accounting for 96%(24/25). Findings:(1) Double urn plastic septic tanks anaerobic fermentation have a better killing effect to fecal coliforms and ascaris eggs. From the front urn to the latter, fecal coliform values gradually increased, and the number of Ascaris eggs gradually reduced. After the Wilcoxon test, Z values were 4.35 and 3.41,P were 0,statistically significant, compared to the《fecal harmless health standards》(GB7959-87),indicators pass rate of fecal coliform value were 89.29%(25/28), the compliance rate of ascaris eggs≥95%(GB19379-2003) sedimentation rate was 96.43%.(2) Three urn plastic septic tanks anaerobic fermentation have a better killing effect to fecal coliforms and ascaris eggs. From the first, second urn to the third, fecal coliform values gradually increased, and the number of Ascaris eggs gradually reduced. After rank sum test(Kruskal Wallis method),H values were 24.9 and 21.1,P were 0. compared to the《fecal harmless health standards》(GB7959-87),two indicators of compliance rates were 100% and 93.8%.Sedimentation rate of parasite eggs was 95.2%, to achieve the《fecal harmless health standards》(GB7959-87) called for sedimentation rate of parasite eggs≥95%.Investigating 32 toilets which installed three plastic urn septic tanks, the total passing rates was 93.8%(30/32).(3) 60 installed Urn-style plastic septic tanks toilets were non-flush toilets families90.0%(54/60) of toilets equipped with a bucket, bailer, waster basket and cleaning tool, the other six equipped with tap water. 93.9%(56/60) toilets equipped with special cleaning utensils and hand paper containers, toilet room was relatively clean, no maggots, no odor. To Urn-style plastic septic tanks toilets, the acceptability and satisfaction of the investigating user were 100%.Conclusions According to the current《fecal harmless health standards》(GB7959-87), installed correctly and using urn type plastic septic tanks can achieve the same effect of feces treatment and disposal as Sanitary latrines, which provided by National Patriotic Health Campaign Committee, after the use environmental hygiene status have improved considerably.
